Theater Tol in the city
For one week the city is the stage, and its residents join in.
Theater Tol in the city is not a one-off performance but a slow build-up. For one week the company settles in a city. Figures, sounds and images appear in the streets and warm the city up day by day, towards one great finale in the square.
The audience is not a spectator but a fellow player. Residents, choirs, brass bands, drama and dance clubs, schools and cyclists become part of the story. The city anthem, the carillon, the towers and the balconies: local character makes every edition a celebration of this particular city.

How the week unfolds

Sowing mystery
Short teasers without words: a bit of animation, a snatch of music, a silhouette, the sound of a bell. They make people curious.

The invitation
A sign appears in the city and personally invites residents. Clubs and schools join the story.

The living week
Every day, brief encounters in changing places. The town hall becomes a canvas and counts down. Every evening another piece of the puzzle appears.

The finale
Everything comes together in the square: the sounds and gestures of the week, music and light. High above the crowd appears an image we are keeping secret for now.

First edition
Sint-Truiden · 10 – 17 October 2026
From 10 to 17 October, Sint-Truiden becomes Theater Tol’s stage for a whole week. By day and by night, figures appear in the streets: a master of ceremonies, a lonely bride, a trumpeter, a walking orchestra with glowing skirts. They appear out of nowhere and vanish again into the night, drawing the city step by step into their world. On the town hall, fragments of a scene come to life and a clock counts down to Saturday. Whoever finds a black bicycle bell holds a personal invitation. And throughout the week, brief encounters invite you to join in: a gesture, a song, the ring of your bell. On Saturday 17 October everything comes together on the Grote Markt. The carillon rings, the bells sound and the city becomes one great instrument, with music, light and a surprise high above the heads. Not a spectator but a fellow player: this week, you are Sint-Truiden. Let yourself be surprised, prick up your ears and keep an eye on your bicycle bell.
